Aims of the Youth Science Network

The Youth Science Network aims to engage youth in science and technology innovations for social change and to prepare them for science-related jobs of the future. The program focuses on developing scientific thinking among high school students by engaging them on research in everyday science to develop their peers, parents and communities.

Youth studying Science in Kandy will work on science projects of their interest and collaborate online creating digital content to showcase scientfic research and their applications. This project is lead by Science Teachers of Kandy, with the assistance of Shilpa Sayura e Learning Initiative and aims to partner with Univercities and Science Foundations.

This project aims to achive following objectives

  • Enabling growth of young people as skilled workforce for science related jobs.
  • Encourage youth to initiate Science and Technology related projects in High School.
  • Youth making better informed decisions based on science and technology.
  • Youth will become better informed about use of Science & Technology applications to improve community around them.
  • Youth will develop writing, multimedia, team-building, critical thinking, research, social development and information skills required for knowledge workers of the future.
  • Integrating youth divided on curriculum streams to colloborate in developing science and technology community solutions.
  • Enabling youth leadership and participation in science and technology for Social development.

We hope that this initiative will help develop future scientists who will improve the quality of life by applications of science in the society of Kandy, Sri Lanka and World at latter stages.
